Dr. Mark James Cannon

Optometrist

Dr. Mark J. Cannon provides comprehensive eye exams, including diagnosing and treating eye disease. Dr. Mark prescribes glasses and contacts to improve vision and medicines to enhance eye health. Dr Cannon takes the time to get to know his patients and their eye history during the exam to serve their vision needs better. He completed his doctorate of optometry at Indiana University, earning the Dean's Scholar Award for academic excellence. Dr. Mark began practicing optometry in Seattle in 2010 and now runs Cannon EyeCare's two locations with his wife, Dr. Miranda Cannon. Their original location in Seattle's University Village has been open since 2015, and they opened their second eye clinic at Pike Place's Market Optical in 2022. The doctors at Cannon EyeCare focus on giving their patients the ability to see everything they need to see clearly and comfortably. Cannon EyeCare is where compassionate eye care meets leading-edge technology.

Dr. Mark J. Cannon was raised in Northwest Indiana, very near Chicago. He attended Indiana University in Bloomington and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Biology and Psychology.
Between undergrad and optometry school, Dr. Mark worked as a fisheries biologist in Alaska with the National Marine Fisheries Service, as a backpacking guide for troubled teens in Utah, and as a microbiologist at Baxter Pharmaceuticals.
He then attended Indiana University’s School of Optometry. During school, he served on mission trips to Guanajuato, Mexico and started a school cycling team that raised thousands of dollars for charity. He was also honored with a Dean Scholar’s Award that led to years of ophthalmic research while in school.
Dr. Mark J. Cannon has worked in a number of practices since moving to Seattle, and has gravitated toward full scope medical optometry. He spent a year as the staff optometrist in an ophthalmology practice in Kirkland, WA and three years in a 3-doctor medical group practice south of Seattle.

An eye itch that does not resolve with modern eye drops for allergies (such as Lastacaft or Pataday) is probably NOT an eye allergy. There are lots of things that can make your eye itch, including a bacterial overgrowth on the lids known as blepharitis and an infestation of mites (demodex) in your lash follicles. Either way, the next step is to present to your local eye doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment. Happy to see you personally at our Pike Place office if you're in the Seattle area

should really be seen by an eye doctor pronto, even if you got the hair out.
