Currently there is a significant increase in childhood myopia especially after the COVID pandemic. Studies indicated that myopia is caused by an elongation of the eyeballs. Besides a lifestyle adjustment such as less usage of electronic devices, there is two FDA approved methods to control the progression of myopia. First is a day time soft contact lenses called MiSight and the second approach is orthok lenses to wear at night to control the progression. Unfortunately, once your children had myopia, there is no way to revert it back to normal.

Screen time affects your vision in different ways. First, our blink rate decrease from 15 times/minutes to approximately 5 times /minute. Which lead to dry eyes condition, and if we do not take care of it properly will lead to permanent loss of meibomian glands which is responsible for proper tear production. Second, high frequency blue light from the screen can cause damage to photoreceptors in animal, although not proven in human, it believes that similar damages can occur in human eyes. Lastly, hours of near focus will definitely deprive our peripheral vision, which can cause binocular vision fatigue as well as binocular vision dysfunction.

It is probably due to allergy. If you are a contact lens wearer, you should visit your eye care provider and see if it is related to your contact lens wear. If it start to affect your vision and have light sensitivity, you should consult your eye care provider immediately.

Any eyelid lesion need to be checkout by an eye care provider, they can range from contact dermatitis to cellulitis, cellulitis is dangerous because it can lead to more severe consequences like meningitis.
