Wondering if you should apply sunscreen on your baby? Then this is for you

If you are heading outside, it’s crucial to shield your infant from the sun. But should you use sunscreen on your newborn or infant baby? Not usually.

Although your baby’s sensitive skin can get easily get sunburned, the FDA and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) caution against using sunscreen on babies under 6 months due to potential side effects, like rashes.

⛱️ So, for newborns and infants under 6 months, prioritize shade. Find natural shade or create your own with umbrellas, tents, or stroller canopies.

⏲ Keep your baby out of the sun, especially between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when UV rays are the strongest. If exposure is unavoidable, take extra precautions and consult your pediatrician before using sunscreen.

Dress your baby in protective clothing and ensure your baby wears a hat for added shade.

Stay hydrated with formula or breast milk and watch for signs of sunburn or dehydration.

‍⚕️ If a sunburn occurs, seek shade, apply cold compresses, and contact your pediatrician.

Pack a cooler for liquids.

☀️ Stay safe and enjoy the outdoors with your little one!
