Dr. Keith Newby is a board-certified cardiologist and the founder of Fort Norfolk Medical located in Norfolk, Virginia. He specializes in coronary artery disease, arrhythmia, 3-D heart mapping, and more. In honor and memory of his father, who was the first black board-certified internist to obtain privileges at what is now Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and a former chief of medicine at Norfolk Community Hospital, Dr. Newby founded the James. E. Newby Jr. M.D. Foundation. This is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing assistance to the citizens of Virginia who are in need of healthcare, and funding research that is aimed at cardiac disease and related chronic illnesses. In addition to his work with Fort Norfolk Medical, Dr. Newby proudly partners with Sentara Healthcare as medical director of health equity.
Dr. Newby graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School located in Norfolk, Virginia in 1990 with his medical degree. From there, he attended Emory University School of Medicine, where he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine. He then went on to perform his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Duke University Medical Center from 1993-1997. With decades of experience in his field, Dr. Keith Newby attributes his passion, dedication, and success in his career to his father, Dr. James Newby, who instilled a strong sense of community involvement to his children.
