Dr. Claudia Henschke received her education from several prestigious institutions: she earned a PhD from the University of Georgia, an MD from Howard University, and both a BA and MS from Southern Methodist University. Before joining the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2010, Dr. Henschke held faculty positions at Harvard Medical School and Weill Cornell Medical College. She is renowned as a pioneer and leading authority in diagnostic radiology, boasting over 25 years of clinical and research expertise in low-dose CT screening. Since the inception of the Early Lung Cancer Action Project (ELCAP) in 1992, she has been dedicated to advancing research on CT screening for early lung disease, focusing primarily on lung cancer.

Dr. Henschke is fluent in English, German, and French. She has authored more than 400 peer-reviewed publications, co-authored two books, presented extensively at scientific forums, and has mentored over 80 physician researchers. She has spearheaded the establishment of numerous local, regional, national, and international lung screening initiatives. Originally launched as the Early Lung Cancer Action Project (ELCAP), this initiative evolved into the International Early Lung Cancer Action Program (I-ELCAP), under her leadership. Today, she directs a collaborative team of esteemed physicians and scientists from 75 institutions worldwide, who have collectively screened over 79,000 individuals across 10 countries through I-ELCAP. Furthermore, the success of I-ELCAP catalyzed the inception of another multinational study, the Initiative for Early Lung Cancer Research on Treatment (IELCART), initiated in 2016 to evaluate the effectiveness of various early lung cancer treatments.
