As a board certified reproductive endocrinologist, specializing in the field of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART), it has been my life’s work to help build families. Many of my patients come to me with little hope and often misdiagnosis’. I have been influential in the births of more than 6000 IVF babies, and with 20 plus years of experience, many of my findings have been incorporated into treatment protocols from around the world.

If it's unsafe for you to be under anesthesia, then you will be awake.

Depends on the agent used. From 2-12 hours. There are also ways to prolong effects up to 20-24 hours.

No, local does not make you sleepy. If you had something in addition, like Valium, that can.

You won't remember much. Depending on the anesthesia type, you may feel euphoric or nothing at all.

Yes, it's quite safe

How long does anesthesia take to wear off in a child?

A few hours, but can be groggy for a day or so.

Most likely you will be sedated

It kicks in pretty fast. Within a few minutes you won't feel anything

Are you put to sleep for angioplasty?

Typically moderate sedation, not full sleep.

What kind of anesthesia is used for ureteroscopy?

Typically general anesthesia, you do go to sleep for it.

What does a twilight state mean with anesthesia?

It's moderate or deep sedation. You'll be breathing on your own, but unaware of your surroundings.

Do children get a smaller dose of anesthesia than adults?

Yes, age and weight always gets factored into anesthetic management. Certain medications are actually higher on a per-pound basis.

Do you breathe on your own under general anesthesia?

Typically no, the machine breathes for you for 90% of the case. You start breathing on your own at the end when everything is almost done.

Do hospice patients feel pain, or sedated from it?

They are typically given enough pain medicine to not be in pain

Why is epinephrine used with lidocaine?

It's used to prolong effect of lidocaine
