Joe Biden, the 46th president, is fighting a battle for the survival of the USA on many fronts. He is being assailed by the Vatican for his support of gay marriage, women's abortion rights being threatened with exclusion from confession and ultimately ex-communication by a GROUP WHICH DEFIES THE POPE AND IS KINDRED TO GROUPS FROM WELL BEYOND THE TIME OF GHENGIS KHAN. His declaration of a dire need for infrastructure repair and replacement is disputed or ignored. An SOS came yesterday from a place called Champlain Towers South in South Side, Florida. It took the form of a colossal architectural collapse of a sort that we identify with foreign countries like Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, etc. The usual story is gross incompetence, greed, and the use of saltwater in concrete, stupidity, etc. The faulty structures collapse with great loss of life, usually of poor people having survived for a few years or worse yet, several months. But Surfside was built in 1981 in the environment of North Miai Beach.
You can see the street sign indicating Collin Ave in the rubble. This rubble contains the bodies of the middle class and wealthy people and while Mayors and Governors cozy up to sinkhole theory, it's probable that aging and repositioning by heavy use have a major role. Bridges are falling all over the country, rail lines are faulty, airports are inadequate, affecting all but the super-rich. Health care and adequate food are the responsibility of the government for its population, not rights or privileges. The GOP is doggedly going after the vote, recognizing that the people are 60 to 70 percent in favor of reform.
In the meantime, THE DELTA VARIATION OF SARS-CoV-2 IS NOW THE DOMINANT STRAIN IN THE USA. There may be a super version of this delta strain that may take over predominance and the politicization of the issue will lead to the devastation of vulnerable populations by this super strain. For the Democrats, there is the reality that borders cannot remain open when there are benefits to be gained by access to our shores. The world will come. In the absence of a world government, "the wretched refuse" must be triaged in much the same way as the victims of a pandemic. Issues such as a drug and violence epidemic based on adverse response to isolation among other things need to be addressed. Joe Biden and co. need more than good intentions to get the nation reorganized along with public health rules of order and survival.
