Following closely on the heels of the sixth of January, the latest incidents of probably (at least in part, if not wholly) racially motivated mass shootings in San Diego and Boulder, Colorado, should promote congressional action on control of automatic and semiautomatic weapons. The NRA has proven itself corrupt, bankrupt, and essentially toothless. Nevertheless, its' A, B, C, and D ratings are clung to and brandished by many in the house of representatives and the senate.
Declarations by MOM formerly POTUS about Kung Flu, the China Syndrome, the Chinese virus, etc., has focused the attention of weak-minded, hatred impelled, groups and individuals on people of Asian ancestry who are morphologically identifiable. By acting as a focal point on a lens concentrating rays of hatred MOM is clearly making things worse and has been so doing since well before his incumbency. While knives, spears, Molotov cocktails, etc., can, have been, and will be used to harm others, the myths surrounding Crockett, Boone, the cowboy, etc., and sheer easy lethality the gun has a special place.
Meanwhile, SARS-CoV-2 continues its menacing world spread. It is likely that the most infectious strains will become endemic and join forces with another agent such as flu, requiring an annual prophylactic vaccination worldwide. The financial reward for the vaccine producers awaits this development since the prices for their vaccine are likely to zoom.
