Prostate cancer screening can involving multiple tests including a blood test called PSA blood test, digital rectal exam (DRE), and even an MRI scan. 

Who should be screened for prostate cancer?

Typically, men over the age of 50 should have discussion with their primary care doctor to discuss prostate cancer screening. There are pros and cons of prostate cancer screening and therefore a discussion with your PCP can help you make the best decision for yourself. 

African American men are at higher risk for prostate cancer and therefore should consider to start screening at an earlier age such as 40-45 years old. Men with family history of prostate cancer should also consider starting earlier than 50 as well. 

Prostate cancer screening can lead to early detection of prostate cancer. Early detection of prostate cancer can save lives.
