Lozol

Lozol is a medication for treatment of hypertension and swelling caused by fluid retention (edema) due to congestive heart failure.

Indapamide is a water pill that prevents the kidneys from absorbing too much salt, so you will pass out more urine and remove excess fluids from the body. Some doctors prescribe Indapamide to prevent reoccurrence of calcium stones in the kidneys.

Indapamide is available in tablets for oral administration. You can purchase Indapamide only with doctor’s prescription.

Before using Lozol, you must know all about the risks and complications associated with it.

Your doctor will consider the following before prescribing you with Indapamide:

Indapamide and other thiazide diuretics are not safe to individuals with certain health conditions. Tell your doctor if you have other health conditions, including gout, lupus, kidney and liver problems, before using Indapamide. You cannot use Indapamide if you have severe kidney or liver disease, unable to pass out urine and have low potassium levels. Tell your doctor if you are using sulfa antibiotics.

Note that water pills such as Indapamide may cause changes in water levels in your body. Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated while taking Indapamide. Consult your doctor about optimum water intake and types of fluids to drink. Do not forget that drinking too many fluids is just as bad as drinking too little.

If you are taking Indapamide to control hypertension, make sure to take them daily even if you feel no symptoms at all. Remember that elevated blood pressure levels do not always cause symptoms. Not taking your medications can increase your risk of suffering from complications caused by hypertension.

Tell your doctor all of the medicines you take, especially sulfa drugs, before taking Indapamide. Indapamide has several drug interactions.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before having Indapamide treatment. Indapamide is an FDA pregnancy category B drug. This means that trials have shown that the drug is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding a baby before using Indapamide.

The doctor will determine your dose of the medication. Always follow the prescribed dose and do not take more or less than the prescribed amount. You can take Indapamide with or without food.

While on Indapamide treatment, you need to have regular checkups, blood, and urine tests, and blood pressure readings to determine if the medication is working as intended. If you are taking Indapamide to treat hypertension, take it consistently even if you feel fine.

If you missed taking Indapamide, take the dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the dose and take the medicine at its scheduled time. Do not increase the dose to make up for the missed dose.

Before using Lozol, there are some precautions you must take.

Always stick to scheduled clinic appointments while taking Indapamide. You need to your blood pressure levels checked and have blood and urine tests. This will determine if the medicine is working and to check for early signs of side effects.

Always follow the prescribed dose to avoid overdose. Some of the symptoms of Indapamide overdose include nausea, weakness, dizziness, dryness of mouth, thirst and muscle pain. If you felt these symptoms, call your doctor right away.

Ask your doctor about your fluid intake requirements daily and stick to it. Drinking too many fluids often results to worsening of disease symptoms. Indapamide removes water from your body so drinking correct amount of fluids can prevent dehydration and side effects.

The following are serious side effects of Indapamide, which requires urgent medical attention:

• Dryness of mouth and thirst
• Nausea and vomiting
• Feeling weak, light-headed or drowsy
• Fast or irregular heart beat
• Muscle pain or weakness

Here are less serious side effects of Indapamide:

• Dizziness
• Headache
• Mild skin rash

These side effects do not require urgent care, but if you find them bothersome, ask your doctor for help.
