Gastroenterologist (Pediatric) | Pediatric Gastroenterology Questions Mesenteric Lymphadenitis

Acute stomach pain?

My 16 year old daughter has severe stomach pain in the midsection radiating to her lower right quadrant and around to the back. She was diagnosed with mesenteric lymphadenitis but I'm not so sure they are correct. I have had her at the hospital twice they performed blood work but tell me her liver enzymes are climbing.

She should get a MRI of her abdomen and pelvis with contrast. She has to consult GI and consult Functional Medicine.
In a case like this, like every case, I would need to do a thorough history, physical exam and review of imaging to try to help make a diagnosis. I cannot comment much on what could be happening because I need a lot more detail.

I would advise that if the working diagnosis is correct then the treatment should be effective, but if she doesn't get better quickly then other diagnoses need to be considered. Mesenteric lymphadenitis would be unusual in someone so young. Getting second opinions from specialists like pediatric GI are sometimes worthwhile.
