Are you awake during radiation therapy?

I will get radiation therapy for prostate cancer. Are you awake during radiation therapy?

Radiation therapy is noninvasive, usually anesthesia is not required. Most require lying down on a table with the required immobilization devices holding the body in the given position. The radiation device moves in various directions around the affected area to pass the radio waves. This is not my field area, but speak with your Oncologist for any available sedatives if you are claustrophobic. The facility for radiation therapy is able to help answer specific questions and provide more information regarding your treatment plan.
Getting radiation is similar to having an x-ray. There is no sensation, injections or feeling from the treatment itself. You simply lie still for a few minutes and a computer driven machine will deliver the therapy painlessly.
