Breathing question?

So I am just wondering about my breathing. All my life I have taken very shallow breathes, sometimes I feel like my body just forgets to breathe and just takes very small breathe that makes me feel like I am suffocating. So I have to focus and take in large breathe to get back to normal. I just wanted to know if this was normal or should I go to my doctor about it?

No, I would not consider that normal. You should see a pulmonologist to make sure that you don’t have apnea. What your total volume is. A pulmonary function test. And that goes without saying a chest X-ray to start off with. And then work your way from there. But to answer your question very simply, small, rapid, shallow breathing with feeling the need to be conscious and make sure that you breathe in something that is autonomic is not normal.
Best of luck. Wish you well, hope all is well.

Be well,
