“Can GERD be life-threatening?”
I am a 33 year old male and I was diagnosed with GERD. Can GERD be life-threatening?

Most the time, GERD is a benign annoyance. Chronic severe GERD, though, can lead to Barrett's esophagus which is a pre-malignant process.
Generally, no. There is really only one scenario in which GERD can be life-threatening, and this is when acid reflux results in an esophageal condition called Barretts esophagus, which then progresses into esophageal cancer.
Most GERD is easily treated by anti acid medications and has no major consequences. It's a good idea to screen for Barretts by EGD at least once in people who complain of heartburn.
Other complications of GERD may include trouble swallowing and stricture, but this is not life-threatening.
