Can I climb stairs after meniscus surgery?

I am a 41 year old male. I want to know if I can climb stairs after meniscus surgery?

Yes. The type of meniscal surgery determines when you will be able to climb stairs. If your surgery includes removal of a portion of the meniscus (partial menisectomy), your knee will be able to bend the same day and you should be able to climb stairs. If your surgery includes repair of a meniscal tear with sutures or anchors, you will not be able to bend the knee for several weeks to allow the meniscus to heal. After the meniscus is healed, you will start to bend the knee and be able to climb the stairs.

Depends on the type of meniscus surgery. You got to talk to the surgeon who is planning to do the surgery

Yes

It would depend upon what type of meniscus surgery you had performed. If it was a partial menisectomy where they trimmed out the damaged and torn portion you can likely start going up and downstairs when you feel comfortable. If it’s a meniscus repair there might be a period of non-weight bearing or partial weight-bearing where Stairs would not be recommended for at least the first six weeks or so. This is typically up to the discretion of the surgeon.
Depends on the type of meniscal surgery. Repair vs. partial removal of the torn piece of meniscus. Please check with your surgeon.
If a meniscus repair was done, then no for at least 3 months. If a meniscus resection was done (meniscectomy - most common) was done, then yes, you can.

Hope this helps!!

Partial meniscectomy, yes. Meniscus repair, no.
This is a question you should be asking her surgeon. Different surgeons have different recommendations and protocols. If I did a meniscectomy which means partial removal of the meniscus then I allow them to put full weight on the leg as tolerated and discard crutches when they feel stable. If I do a meniscus repair, I usually recommend protected weightbearing which means using crutches and putting partial weight on the operated leg for 4 weeks. In this scenario, you can still do stairs but you need to use her crutches and you should be trained in using crutches on stairs.
