Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Specialist Questions C-Section (Cesarean Birth)

Can I have a normal delivery if my first one was a caesarean?

My first delivery was a c-section. I am due for my next delivery but the doctor says since my first delivery was a caesarean, second also would be the same. Is that really the case or should I take a second opinion?

so it depends on a couple of factors. If you had a previous C section with a vertical incision, it is possible to have a vaginal birth. But the decision rests with the "culture " of the practice your doctor is in. Obstetricians go back and forth about this issue. So you really have to discuss with your Ob.
Yes. Unless the section was classical.
It depends on the kind of C-section, they are not all the same. In certain kinds, that is the case.
In general, once a cesarean does not automatically imply "always a cesarean". It depends upon the reason why previous cesarean was done. Sometimes, it is not possible to elicit a specific reason for previous cesarean delivery. There are number of factors that go on to plan whether vaginal delivery should be attempted or not. Your obstetrician would be in the best position to determine whether vaginal delivery should be attempted and if yes, what would be the chances for successful vaginal delivery.
It is possible to deliver vaginally after a c-section. You should consult with a perinatologist and discuss the type of prior c-section (low transverse or classical), any other complications of the prior c-section, and the risks and benefits of VBAC
