Can overexertion result in spondylolysis?

I play football 5 days a week. I had to sit out this season because of back pain. I was diagnosed with spondylolysis. Can overexertion result in spondylolysis?

Yes, it can.
No. The spondy is due to weakness of the supporting ligaments. Recommend working with a good physical therapist to strengthen your back muscles & ligaments. This is only going to worsen, don’t wait until you’re miserable.
Probably yes if you're at risk such as a pitcher or a golfer. Spondylolysis is a stress reaction of the spine which if left untreated can lead to spine instability and possibly surgery
