In our practice, we ask patients to refrain from coffee for three days after surgery. The reason is that some patients can have an increases in their heart rate or blood pressure after they consume coffee. The increase in heart rate and/or blood pressure can produce more bleeding from the nose, septum, or raw surface areas of the turbinates or nasal mucosa. In our practice, Doyle nasal splints are often removed on the second or third post-operative day. During this time we have assessed any bleeding risks and can determine if it is ok to resume coffee.
