You can treat with medication and individual therapy and choose not to drink. Alcoholism is genetic. So like the color of your hair if you dont like the color you can dye it but you still have that hair color
Your question is one I am frequently asked.
Let’s start with terminology. “can you fix it” would suggest something is broken ergo someone broke it and there is blame. If you had asthma or high blood pressure,( other chronic medical conditions - like addiction is) we would not ask it it could be “fixed” rather can it be treated or brought into remission. Like diabetes, asthma or high blood pressure addiction causes bodily changes and all can be treated. There are several options for treatment and some are more effective than others. You are NOT broken and do NOT need fixing, you have a medical condition and need treatment. It shows strength of character and quality of person to be seeking help as you are. I suggest U consider going on the American Society of Addiction Medicine website and search for a physician member in your area. Make an appointment with that physician when ready and discuss treatment options. Serenity-Courage- Wisdom: Doc Soper
HI, Thank you for your question; however, it is a much bigger question than one might realize. Addiction has many contributors and reinforcers so there is no single answer. Biology, history, environmental influences, personality and motivation all factor in so it is essential to consider a person's history, goals and motivation when considering treatment rather than a "fix" Each person is unique and their situation must be respected if they choose treatment. Drug addiction is a complex problem, and recovery is possible. Find a professional near you to learn about the best treatment option for you.
Mental health or addiction is not about fixing an issue it's about altering
You can work toward fixing drug addition with scheduled therapy. I recommend that you seek therapy with a therapist in your local area.
