I was diagnosed with a herniated disc. Do you need treatment for a herniated disc?

Yes, your disc would benefit w treatment. You will have less discomfort and be much more stable.
It is in your best interest to treat this now. If not it will only worsen and re-injure at some point in the future. Physical therapy is a great start, then an MRI. Do not hesitate to find someone who injects the stabilizing structures with regenerative medicine. It is a great, safe, and effective option that can prevent future re-injury, help pain, and also prevent/avoid surgery.
