“Do you use local anesthesia for a colonoscopy?”
I will have a colonoscopy. Do you use local anesthesia for a colonoscopy?

In my experience, conscious sedation is what's most commonly used for
colonoscopy. A combination of medications is given to put the person into a
light sleep and to cause amnesia, but it is not as deep as general
anesthesia and usually a breathing tube is not required.

I would check with the provider for your specific situation. Commonly,

No. Generally sedation or a general anesthesia are used for this.
