Neurologist Questions Head Injuries

Head injury as a child

When I was about 9 years old (now 25 female), I fell about 3-4 feet from a pole head first onto a fire hydrant. I had a pretty good sized dent in my head from it, I still have the dent but its smaller now. Its on the top of head towards the back. I remember walking home (about 20 feet) and crying and that's it. I can't remember actually getting home or anything for at least a few days after. I never went to a doctor, the hospital or anything. I've never gotten any type of xray or anything of the sort on my head. I was wondering if there could be a chance of a lifelong brain injury, personality changes, or anything of the sort that I still suffer with. I'm very poor and do not have insurance to actually pay to get any xray or anything at the moment. Just wondering what side effects it could have caused thank you!

For a head injury with a brief loss of consciousness, such as you describe, and no neurological symptoms at any time over the next several weeks, we would not expect any type of long term physical or psychological effects.
Hello there. From what you're describing it sounds like you had a concussion. This can offer some long-lasting complaints such as headaches and confusion. Unless you were unconscious and had documented brain trauma which would have been documented by a brain scan which would have been done at that time when you incurred your injury it is highly unlikely that personality changes are related to such.Personality changes may have a genetic ( familial) component; However significant head trauma can exacerbate or make worse such.I hope this offers some understanding and guidance.
