First, we should understand the mechanism of the injury. Why is the tendon getting injured? Most often it is due to overpronation of the foot. When the foot flattens and rolls in, the tendon structures get overly stressed and get micro tears. This results in
inflammation or the beginning of the repair cycle. You will feel this as pain, tightness, swelling and warmth. Rest, ice compression and anti-inflammatory medicine will help. Make sure you have the right shoes for your activity and consider an orthotic if needed.
You would have to immobilize the area by using a brace or walker boot to limit the motion of the ankle for 2-3 weeks. If not better, I would have it evaluated in person with a physician.

The best answer is see your local podiatrist. This is a loaded question, because it could be tendons on the medial or inside of the foot and ankle, or the lateral or outside of the foot and ankle, or the posterior aspect of the ankle which is the Achilles. Each condition is treated differently due to the underlying cause that would be determined with a through examination and observation of the the foot and ankle. The key is it must be supported and allowed time to heal and not continue to be strained which will result in failure of goals.
There are many tendons that runs across the ankle joint, pin pointing which tendon has the inflammation and causing symptoms is important to dictate treatment options. Therefore, I recommend you to speak with a podiatrist or orthopedics doctor.
This is usually due to an overuse injury. I recommend you make an appointment with a foot and ankle surgeon (podiatrist) for evaluation and treatment options
It depends what’s causing the tendinitis. You may need arch supports, a brace, anti-inflammatory medication, or physical therapy. If the problem persists, you should have an mri to insure the tendon is not torn or damaged. Sometimes a surgical repair is necessary.
