I would suggest seeing a corrective care chiropractic clinic that does x-rays and analyzes them prior to giving recommendations. If you were located close to Fenton Michigan check out painlessdc.com
Let a trained chiropractor evaluate your cervical spine to look for restrictions and/or joint dysfunction. If he finds it, than manipulation would be beneficial and therapeutic. If not, than a different approach might be best. That said, most people would benefit from an 'adjustment' but not all. If always best to evaluate a patient before blindly adjusting.

I would go see a chiropractor and let them make the determination. Some people need routine adjustments. Other people do well with less frequent adjustments.
You will have restricted range of motion in that joint and limited unlimited function. You cannot tell on your own you would need a skill and qualified doctor of Chiropractic to evaluate the joint for you it is worth investing a testing a consultation with a chiropractor near you.
In order to know if you need a neck adjustment, you should visit a chiropractor who can perform an examination and let you know exactly where the problem is coming from and how to fix it. Now, if you work either at a desk job, or any job involving repetitive over the shoulder motion you are most likely in need of an adjustment! Most patients come to visit a chiropractor for a neck adjustment because they are feeling stiffness, tension, lack of motion mainly when they are driving or trying to look over the shoulder and/or pain that can be sometimes as intense as numbness and tingling coming from the neck region down to the shoulder into their arms, hands and worse case fingers. Please do not let the problem progress where you start having numbness and tingling in your fingers because that is
nerve damage which means it will take longer to heal.
Several factors account for this. According to guidelines we look at 3 out of 4 factors to be present. Acronym is PART according to Medicare Guidelines. This in addition to a comprehensive subjective history + objective history performed by the Chiropractor creates an Assessment and/or Diagnosis where we can create a treatment plan accordingly.

1. Pain
2. Asymmetry
3. Decreased Range of Motion
4. Taut/Tender Fibers
If you feel neck pain or stiffness during normal motion patterns or if you feel like there is an area of the neck that is tender to touch or feels "kinked", you probably need an adjustment.
Two simple techniques can show you if you need a neck adjustment. First. Turn your head all the way to the right and left. If you cannot turn as far to one side as the other, you need to be adjusted. You should be able to turn almost 90 degrees in each direction from starting by facing straight ahead. Second. Stand next to a wall. Pick a point on the wall, a spot, the tip of the light switch, etc. Close your eyes and touch that spot. If you open your eyes and you have missed it. You need some adjustments.
Most patients that need a neck adjustment to feel one of the following ways:
* Pain with motion
* Limited Range of motion in the neck
* Sore or tightness in the neck
The hardest part of being a Chiropractor is actually knowing when NOT to adjust. This would all be determined in a Chiropractic Examination before any type of manipulation is performed.
Hi there!
This could be a complicated question, but we will keep it simple for sake of time. Your spine has what are called Facet Joints in them. These joints are synovial in nature and have a fibrous capsule with fluid and air inside them. When a joint becomes restricted or "tight", often times manipulation (i.e. adjustment) is utilized to free up that joint or joints and at the same time release muscle tightness that attaches to that joint as well. So, if your neck feels tight and range of motion has decreased, you may benefit greatly from this type of treatment! Be sure to get a thorough exam and health history by the provider BEFORE treatment. X-rays are not necessary unless you have had recent trauma or to rule out any specific pathologies/abnormalities.
In case you're wondering it is Dr Woodhall, not Mr. To determine if you need a cervical adjustment, neck bones, usually pain or stiffness will tell you that you need this adjustment. Also involved in this you could have tingling or numbness in the hands coming from the neck
A good chiropractor would be able to tell you.
If you have neck pain or notice a difference in range of motion when you rotate to either side then you might be in need of a neck adjustment. Some people thing that adjusting the neck is scary or dangerous but it has been proven in many research articles to be a safe and effective way to address neck pain. If degenerative changes are causing your pain (which is unlikely at your age) then walking and movement can help relieve the pain and make your body generally more functional. However, if your back pain was caused by an injury or even a disc herniation, then rest is what you need to get better. For more information, check out our website at portolavalleychiro.com
