That should be a discussion that you have with your surgeon. Driving after hernia surgery varies on the type of repair and type of hernia.
After abdominal surgery the restrictions related to driving are two fold:
(1) no driving is recommended while taking any narcotics
(2) wearing of the cross body seatbelt might cause discomfort.
After uncomplicated surgery patients are usually able to return to regular activity after 4 to 6 weeks, sooner in laparoscopic versus open procedure which are associated with less pain.
