A toothache will last as long as the tooth is alive. The pain will fade after the nerve dies, however the problem will then get worse. Bacteria from the dead tissue will eventually cause and infection and you will begin to lose bone. It is imperative that you see your dentist as soon as possible before it gets worse.
Without treatment, it will only get worse depending on what is going on with the tooth.
There is no good answer to this question. Tooth decay cannot treat itself. If you have a toothache, the only way to get rid of it is to diagnose it and treat it or extract it. Tooth pain can come and go, but it will almost always come back and most likely get worse.
Until you get it treated. The initial pain will eventually go away when the nerve in the tooth necrosis. The pain will come back after that when the abcess forms.
