When a person dies, the body immediately starts the decomposition, and the smell of death can begin. This is due to the gases created by the microorganism during the stage of decomposition. Changes of metabolism starts even before the death. Within half an hour, the dying person start to smell. Their breath, skin, body fluids have a distinctive smell of nail polish remover. There are five stages of death, and they are denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. The first organ to break down is the brain and other organ will follow. Even within half an hour, you can smell death in the room. There are signs of death. They are feeling weak, tired, sleeping more, cold hands and feet, bladder or bowel problem, pain etc. Thank you.
The odor of decomposition is usually apparent to the untrained nose usually by 3 or 4 days after death.
