Gastric banding is not commonly recommended anymore as a viable weight loss option. I do not ever recommend them in my own practice given the poor excess body weight loss and the high complication rate. I would strongly recommend discussing your weight loss options further with your Bariatric surgeon prior to committing to gastric band surgery. That being said, as the gastric band is a laparoscopic procedure, most patients recover very quickly from the actual operation. Most patients will go home from the hospital within 24 to 48 hours after surgery.
