No, hurting bad it is not normal. Contact your dentist and tell him about the pain. Obviously the pressure put on the teeth is too much and he can adjust that. There is some discomfort for couple of days normally but that should be easing over couple of days. Your bad pain will eventually gets better over time but excessive pressure causes damage to the fibers around the tooth, the blood supply to the root and can cause irreversible damage. Run, don’t walk back to the dentist!
