Swelling around the mouth, cheeks, eyes and sides of the face is part of the body's normal reaction to surgery and eventual repair. The swelling is usually proportional to the surgery involved and may not become apparent until the day following surgery. Swelling will reach its maximum 2-3 days after the surgery.
I have several implants myself, and had very little swelling…but lots of my patients have had a fair amount of swelling and bruising, according to how much surgery was done.
When sinus lifts were necessary for upper implants, there is usually swelling and bruising, for example. When all the teeth are removed, usually see swelling.
Swelling is normal after surgery. However if pain is associated with
swelling it is always best to follow up with your dental professional.
