How painful is hernia surgery?

I am a 44 year old male. I want to know how painful is hernia surgery?

Minimally invasive hurts less but all hernia repair is painful.
I typically send my patients home with 5 days of prescription pain medication and very rarely do I have to refill it. You may be sore for a week or two, but generally patients can get back to activity within 2-4 weeks.
Post op pain varies.
