Orthopedics Questions Orthopaedic Surgeon

ā€œI fractured both wrists?ā€

My son fractured both of his wrists equally. The doctor put a cast on one wrist and a fabric brace on the other so that he can still have a free hand to do stuff with. Is this a good idea? I'm worried one won't heal as well as the other.

Hi! Thank you for your question.

Iā€™m so sorry to hear about this and I hope he is doing okay. The best physician to ask would be an orthopedic physician. It does make sense that we would want your son to have some use of one of his wrists, but I fully understand your concern. I wish I could be more helpful! I deal mostly with headaches and pain.
Good luck.
It depends on the extent of the fracture. Without looking at the X-rays, it would be hard to determine. I believe that course of treatment sounds reasonable.
