“I need a bite alignment procedure. What is this?”
My dentist and oral surgeon say I need a bite alignment procedure. What exactly happens during this procedure? Also, how long after the procedure will be my bite be improved?

You are having an OCCLUSAL ADJUSTMENT. For some patients it takes about half an hour to do the RESTORATION and a long time to adjust the "PATIENT'S BITE" or "PATIENT'S OCCLUSION." Yes, we have colored paper that helps us to adjust how the patient's teeth come together. But only the patient can tell us everything is alright.
Please consult a prosthodontist to have your mouth evaluated. He is the best trained specialist to diagnose and treat your "problem."
Sounds like you have a good dentist and oral surgeon. There is a very specific way that nature wants our teeth to contact with one another, both when biting straight down and when sliding the jaw side to side. Interferences in the bite can cause a whole host of problems. I adjust bites often and 90% of the time my patient looks at me and says their bite feels "better".
