“Is acupuncture once a month enough?”
I have acupuncture treatment for my back pain once a month. Is acupuncture once a month enough?

For back pain, I would suggest more acupuncture sessions, combining with massage, and sometimes herbs, to get rid of your back pain.
If a patient desires to come for acupuncture for relaxation, once a month might just be enough, however, if it is for treating a condition, weekly treatments are recommended at first.
Great question.
How often someone gets acupuncture depends on a few factors.
Age, underlying health, is the condition acute or chronic.

It mainly depends on the curative effect. If there is no pain, there is no need to continue the treatment.
Hi there. Thank you for reaching out. For the best and most lasting result for chronic low back pain, I would recommend seeing your acupuncturist twice weekly for 3 weeks (6 treatments). After 6 treatments, if you notice positive results and an improvement, then once a week for 2-3 months. However, if you've had this pain for many years, it may take longer. If your back pain is due to structural issues such as scoliosis or disc herniation, you may have to see your acupuncturist weekly for half a year to a year. If your low back pain is acute and due to recent trauma, then I would recommend twice weekly for 3 weeks then once a week for 1 month. Once a month visit is definitely not efficient and may not make any change to your condition. Hope I answer your question. Take care.
Good-afternoon,
1. Received. Thank you.
2. It all depends on the chief complaint and your medical condition to determine the frequency of acupuncture treatment.
3. If you shall have any questions, please feel free to call me at (562)698-3008.

No. Twice weekly is standard.
Thanks and best wishes.

It depends on your individual response to the acupuncture treatments. Some
rely on a monthly maintenance; but I have been able to help my patients
push out further to quarterly or annual maintenance visits.
Check with your primary first to see if alternative medicine is a
good fit for you.

That depends, what is the reason for your back pain? Is it acute or chronic? No two back pain patients are the same. Since you are already under the care of a practitioner, you should have a clear treatment plan with check-ins on your progress. If your practitioner believes once a
the month is enough then I would trust they know your case and have your best interests and outcomes in mind.

If your back pain is chronic and constant then the answer is no. I would say once a week would serve you better!
Acupuncture once a month is a good maintenance plan, but if the low back is in acute pain, at least once a week or twice a week is recommended. Acupuncture works on the body to heal itself so any healing works better when there is a momentum. Dr. Miura
Monthly acupuncture is only used for maintaining the result, not for treatment. Acupuncture treatment has accumulative effects in general.
For pain I suggest coming in 2 times a week until the pain is gone. If it is chronic pain management then 1 time per week is suggested.
Acupuncture once a month is indicated for maintenance of good health. If you have a condition of any sort, once a week or more is necessary to begin seeing improvement.

Once a week while in pain is necessary...once a month once you are healthy by our standards would be adequate. Most importantly, since you are thinking about doing acupuncture, do find a qualified and real acupuncturist! Anything less would be you not really trying this system of healing. Find a fully trained professional in Chinese medicine, possessing a master's degree AND 5+ years experience in this field. Medical Doctors, Osteopaths, Chiropractors, and even Physical Therapists (dry needling) are able to do what looks like acupuncture (but isn't) with a couple weekends of training or less. I would NOT let any of these inadequately trained people NEAR ME. :-)
For acute conditions, I see patients twice a WEEK. Once their condition is under control and they are happy with the level of healing or pain, I shift to once a WEEK, then once every other week, THEN once a month. So no, if you are trying to fix a problem, once a month won't do you much good.
Having said that, if your back pain is taken care of with once a month treatments, then yes, it's enough.

No, acupuncture once a month is not enough. It depends on your condition. There was a time I only gave a patient one session of (usually within one hour) acupuncture treatment; it left over 4 months of no back pain again until the patient lifted a very heavy luggage, then pain came back again. So, it varies.
Once a month is a typical maintenance interval for patients whose problems are largely resolved and they just want to stay on top of things. If that describes where you are in your treatment plan, then, yes, it's enough.
If you've just started acupuncture for your back pain, though, I'd be surprised if you get much traction with that amount of time between treatments. Usually I see pain management patients once a week for 3-5 weeks and then space the treatments out until either the pain goes away completely or we hit some maintenance interval that works for the patient.
