Is bone grafting painful?

I am a 55 year old male. I want to know if bone grafting is painful?

Depends on what type of bone grafting is being done. Placing grafting material after an extraction (socket preservation) is usually not painful. Ridge augmentation(expanding the bone) is generally more uncomfortable.
No it is not painful. Many times you will have the surgeon give you meds to "put you out" . It is not general anesthesia it is called Sedation. They also use local anesthesia. My patients report very little post operative discomfort. Hope this helps.
No as long as the local anesthetic works
There are quite a few ways to perform bone grafting. There are many different materials that can be used for bone grafting. The area that is bone grafted and the amount of bone needed also are a factor. In general, the site is anesthetized prior to surgery so there is no pain during the procedure, post-operative pain is related to the aforementioned factors.
