Is ice good for herniated disc?

I was diagnosed with a herniated disc. Is ice good for a herniated disc?

A herniated disc is associated with inflammation, which can be reduced with cryotherapy. There is no guarantee that this will relieve your symptoms and it is certainly worth trying since it is a simply and inexpensive therapy you can try at home.
As a herniated disc is usually accompanied by inflammation, ice (wrapped in a damp towel) is a good way to reduce inflammation/pain. Ice should be put over the area until the area becomes numb. Once the area is numb, take the ice off for 30 minutes. You can then put it back on until the area becomes numb, again. You can do this as long as you like.
As a side note, with a herniated disc, do not sit for prolonged periods. It is better to stand or lay down, if possible.
Ice is good for any swelling and inflammation in the body especially the first 48hrs. Can be used whenever necessary
Decompression therapy following a chiropractic adjustment at a clinic that can create a specialized plan is best for a herniated disc. Ice may help you feel better in the short term for inflammation but its not going to directly help the disc.
