Is it normal to lose hearing with an ear infection?

My daughter has hearing loss due to an ear infection. Is it normal to lose hearing with an ear infection?

Yes, when there is an ear infection, the middle ear system does not function properly. This can cause a conductive hearing loss that usually goes away when the infection clears. For a person with an ear infection, it will sound somewhat like they are wearing earplugs in their ears.
Complete hearing loss is not normal with an ear infection but having a change in hearing or decrease hearing can be common during the infection. Once the infection clears, it should improve. If it doesn’t she definitely needs to be seen by a physician.
