Either test can find gallstones but since the gallbladder is a hollow organ, Ultrasound is usually the best test. That is not to say they cannot be seen on a CT Scan, but between the two, Ultrasound would be better.
It depends, but generally ultrasound is better- lower radiation, tells real-time function. CT is better for detecting anything outside the gallbladder, in the liver or elsewhere. So, kind of depends on why it is being done.
Both give information about the gallbladder, but on the whole ultrasound would be the first choice and generally gives more information especially when it’s not in the acute setting
Ultrasound is the imaging modality of choice for initial evaluation of suspected gallbladder pathology. CT results in a significant radiation dose to the patient, while US uses high frequency sound waves to create images. US is the preferred method of imaging for pregnant women and for children. CT is however more sensitive for diagnosing acute cholecystitis, assessing extra-biliary gallstone pathology and complications arising from gallstone pancreatitis and cholecystitis.
