“Is vomiting after anesthesia normal?”
I had surgery 2 days ago and have been vomiting on and off since. Is this a normal reaction to anesthesia?

Postoperative nausea and vomiting due to general anesthesia are usually limited to the first few hours after surgery, so symptoms that last longer need to be reevaluated.
The most common side effect of general anesthesia is post operative nausea and vomiting. However, 2 days later is not typically related to general anesthesia at that point. More commonly the patient is on pain medication post surgery. The most common side effect of narcotic pain medications are nausea and vomiting. This can be reduced by taking the pain medication with food. If this does not help you can contact your surgeon and let them know you are experiencing nausea and vomiting and discuss possible anti-nausea medication.
Sometimes postoperative vomiting is related to anesthesia. It could also be related to the surgery or general medical issue involved
Yes it is normal, some patients are more sensitive to anesthesia then others, anytime in future you have to have surgery and need general anesthesia, please tell your anesthesiologist, and he will give you medicine to prevent you from having post operative nausea and vomiting
Unfortunately, nausea is a common side effect and vomiting can occur. General anesthesia, laparoscopic surgeries, breast surgery, and surgery that requires a lot of opiate pain control as well as female sex are risk factors. Up to 15%-20% of patients will have nausea that may not be successfully treated with most anti-nausea medications and may require some alternative methods of anesthesia if the N/V is severe.
