Orthopaedic Surgeon Questions Radiologist

My MRI findings?

Cervical spine: There are T1 body heights are maintained. No definite abnormal cord signal is visualized. There is prominence of the ventral epidural space, seen at the C5-C6 through inferior C7 level. Prominent enhancement is also seen ventrally within the lower cervical. Grossly there is prominent the epidural space beginning at the C7 level extending inferiorly. There is no severe central spinal canal stenosis seen.

Thoracic spine: There is no compression deformity. Alignment is maintained. No definite abnormal cord signal is seen. There is marked prominence of the dorsal epidural space throughout, with T2 hyperintense, T1 hypointense signal, measuring up to 5 mm AP dimension on series 7 image 29. On imaging of the upper thoracic spine and cervical spine sequences, series 9 image 9, there is apparent cortical enhancement, with peripheral enhancement also suggestive on axial postcontrast imaging, for instance series 10 image 46, the alignment sagittal postcontrast imaging, series 14 image 9, there appears to be thick homogeneous enhancement of the dorsal epidural space.

Lumbar spine:

No compression deformity is seen. There is disc disease at L4-L5. There is prominent T2 hyperintense, T1 hypointense epidural signal throughout, contiguous with the thoracic spine findings. This shows no homogeneous enhancement is seen on thoracic spine sagittal imaging, though appears to be present ventrally from L4-5 extending inferiorly. There is prominent enhancement along the dorsal margin of the anterior dura, series 9 image 8, uncertain etiology. Cauda equina nerve roots themselves show no definite abnormal enhancement. There is a slightly prominent tubular structure within the right
abdomen on series 10 image 21 measuring up to 7 mm diameter, possibly a prominent appendix, possibly normal for this patient given similar luminal size on prior CT. Need to know what this means

Without all your clinical information, a whole conundrum of problems or diagnoses come to mind. It sounds concerning about all the areas of increased signal and enhancement. This is suggestive of inflammatory and/or infectious or malignancy (like I said before it is hard to say without your whole history). I suggest you get in touch with the Dr. that ordered the MRI and go in for a follow-up visit and further testing.
