Dentist Questions Dental Braces

My daughter's braces are too tight. Is there anything I can do?

My daughter got braces a few weeks ago and they're still feeling a little tight. She's having trouble eating, and she's in quite a bit discomfort. What should we do?

You can try Tylenol for the discomfort. Advil or Ibuprofen will slow down her treatment. If this is right after she had the braces put on initially they will be sore for the longest. The bone needs to start its change so the teeth can move. Usually a light wire is the first wire so I would be surprise if it lasted more then the first couple of weeks. If it does ask the treating doctor
Braces usually equalize their pressure within two to three weeks . If not allergic ibuprofen after each meal will help to deal with the soreness
It's not uncommon to have the feeling of tightness for a week or more following the commencement of braces. It may take some time to get used to daily routines. However, if the discomfort is due to a wire impinging or bracket rubbing and causing an ulcer, best to contact your orthodontist/dentist.
Tylenol and softer foods.
Braces will be right but if it is to the point it bothers her then take her back to get them checked
This is normal. The teeth will relax and then they will tighten again. This is how braces work. You must have supreme care of your teeth. Every day, every night.
Hi,

The teeth should be sore for a few days. That’s normal. If they don’t hurt, that means they’re not moving. If they’re hurting more than a week, you should go back to your orthodontist and have them adjusted.
It is not uncommon to initially feel uncomfortable, however, if it has been a few weeks. I would go back to the orthodontist. I believe they need to decrease the tension within the wires. I would recommend that you go back to the dentist (ortho) who placed them for you.
It is normal for the description of feeling too tight to be present during the initial stages of orthodontic treatment. Remember that the pressure dissipates over a period of time and it also becomes more manageable as the months pass by in the teeth begin to change position and you notice the Improvement to their position themselves period aspirin usually controls the uncomfortable pressure and pain also warm salt water rinses and avoid chewing gum because of the repetitive motions engaging the chewing itself which irritate sensitive teeth that are in the process of changing their positions at the direction of your orthodontist.
It is normal for braces to be tight at least for a week or two. I would suggest to go back to the dentist who put the braces on and have them evaluate.

Thanks.
There isn't anything you can do to lighten the forces of the braces. If it's been a few weeks and they are still too tight, you should notify the dentist/orthodontist because moving teeth too fast can damage the roots.
Anti inflammatory medication such as Advil or Motrin.  It is common to feel some discomfort for a day or two after the braces are tightened.  If it continues, contact the orthodontist.
