“My son has a birth defect in his hand. How can I make sure it doesn’t affect his confidence level?”
My son is 6 years old and is suffering from a birth defect in his hand. This is now showing in his confidence level, making him an introvert and very aggressive. What can I do to boost his confidence level?

He should go to psychotherapy to talk to someone that can help him accept his birth defect and build his confidence.
It's best to remove the defect if possible. If not, be kind, explain that kids sometimes don't accept of differences try to instill other values and help him develop other skills. seeing a therapist is always a good idea
Hello, many child therapists are trained to analyze and manage struggles with self-esteem and self-confidence, which can be common amongst children. When searching for a therapist, finding one who specializes in the treatment of children will be helpful!
Validate his emotions. Encourage his best traits. Show him all the ways he's amazing that have nothing to do with his appearance.
The movie Wonder is really encouraging.
And the book The Whole Brain child could be helpful for you too!

All you can do is feed his confidence. Focus on his strengths, what is good about him. Don't focus on what you perceive a bad or a problem. What we focus on is magnified. Be a model for health and confidence, if you treat the birth defect as a problem, he will feel that from you, even if no words are spoken. Praise him, love him and celebrate all the great things that he is.
Make every effort to be warm, affectionate, and accepting of his appearance and any functional defect he may have. Let him know that some kids can be mean, but to realize that is their problem - do not make it your problem.
