Internist Questions Headache

Ongoing headache - what to do?

I've had a headache pretty consistently for the past week or so. It varies in severity and I'm able to fall asleep at night, but the pain is always there. Is this a sign of something else? I haven't tried anything over-the-counter because I've been nervous that it has lasted this long.

Please see neurologist to determine cause
There are many reasons for having headaches. It could be tension headaches, migraines, cluster headaches, or even a brain aneurysm. I would suggest to talk to your doctor and get a formal evaluation if the headache does not resolve with OTC meds.
You need to see neurologist and it is important to do EEG to see if there are pathological spikes. I don’t know how old you are but usually it’s possible to have cluster headaches or migraines headaches around 40 y/old, so in that case, the best drug of choice would be sumatriptan at the first sign of headache
It's time to go see your doctor. A persistent headache may be due to muscle tension, sinus infection, allergies or an elevated blood pressure. However, it may be a sign of something more serious. Your doctor should do a thorough exam and possibly blood work as well as a CT or MRI scan of the head to look for serious causes of headache. Don't delay.
New onset headache requires investigation.
Imporatant to know your medical history, family history,do detailed physical exam.
After all some blood work may need as well as brain scan.
Best to see a doctor.
Most common cause of headache is High Blood Pressure other wise Anxiety and not sleeping well can also give headache if blood pressure is normal.
My advice would be to get seen by your doctor, don't wait any longer to get evaluated.
