OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) Questions OB-GYN

Pregnancy?

I am an 18 year old female, who just recently lost her virginity (last night.) I am concerned I may have somehow become pregnant. My boyfriend wore a condom, he also pulled out and I took a Plan B about 30 minutes after we had intercourse, what are the chances of me being pregnant?

Thank you for your question.

Base on what you have described to me, the chance to be pregnant is none to zero. You have done very well. If you believe you are going to be active sexually, I think using the pill
probably will be a better form of contraception. Of course there are other methods. I strongly recommend that you discuss the matter with your gynecologist for other options.

If the condom did not break, it is incredibly unlikely that you would become pregnant. Having taken the plan B as a precaution is reasonable. If you wanted to continue to have more reliable contraception in the future, you may want to consider a birth control pill or a progestin implant device to help further decrease the risk of pregnancy.
