Acupuncturist Questions

Soreness in hands and feet from Acupuncture

I had acupuncture done 6 weeks ago by a licensed professional. Ever since, my hands and feet feel a tight burning sensation on the points where needles were inserted (between pointer and middle finger). Directly after treatment,I noticed it right away when the needle was taken out. Doctor said it should go away in a few hours. It’s now been 6 weeks and feels the same, I’m very worried this feeling wont go away, I work with my hands for a living and its very uncomfortable. I still have motor function, just the unfamiliar sensations of tugging, burning, tight, bruised. When I move my fingers these sensations increase. I’m really hoping I’m just taking longer to heal.

I suggest you to contact acupuncture board to complaint that clinic, here is the phone # (916)515-5200 because you have the right to report any kind of improper treatments, that clinic should pay you the damage!
Acupuncture is effective but there are a lot acupuncturists are unprofessional and also if the person has bad quality he(she) can transmission bad qi to your body by insert a needle to your body that make you even more sick then before!
Thank you for sharing. This has never occurred to any of my patients in my 20+ year experience as an acupuncture doctor. I am not blaming anyone because I don’t have all the information. I would get your hand examined by your MD or even better, a hand specialist, to get a professional opinion after doing some tests. Sometimes, if one has a muscle syndrome such as Fibromyalgia, a bruising effect can last for days or weeks after nerve or muscle trauma.
I would need to do a full intake to make an assessment
This is not a normal thing to happen. Acupuncture is used to treat soreness in hands and feet. If your acupuncturist cannot help you with this I suggest you try a different practitioner.
it's called "Arrival of Qi" Yes, it bothers but it's totally normal upto 2months.
you might noticed your chief complants have been decreased due to the sensation that you are experincing: arrival of qi.
There are many types of people living in the world.
Always pray to find a good doctor.
It can be brought back to normal with acupuncture.
Good morning,

1. Received thank you.
2. Soreness sensation from acupuncture treatment is normal. Usually, it goes away within a week.
3. The sensation you experienced tugging, burning, tight, bruised has nothing to do with acupuncture treatment.
4. I suggest that you contact your physician because the sensation you experienced is from something else just happened after acupuncture treatment, but not associated with the acupuncture therapy you received.
5. If you shall have any other questions, please feel free to call me at 562-698-3008.

Some of these side effects do tend to happen. And sometimes they can last longer than a day. I would suggest you let your practitioner know and let them try to resolve it. Sometimes it takes more acupuncture to take care of the acupuncture. If symptoms become severe see your primary or seek emergency services.
Hi there. I'm so sorry to hear this. In general, for any condition, it's highly recommended to see your acupuncturist 2-3 times at the minimum even if your chief complaint has been resolved. Your acupuncturist should be able to help with this burning sensation in your hand with a massage or other modalities. Please give them a call to schedule a follow-up. An acupuncture needle is very tiny so long-term side effects rarely happen. One of your tendons may have been irritated. It should be okay in a few weeks. In the meantime, to speed up the healing process, you may apply heat on the hand for 3-5 minutes at a time, 2-3 times a day. Take care.
Thank you for your question.
I understand your frustration. It's not normal for the sensation of tingling to don't go away in a few hours or days.
Normally it is a light sensation and should go away fast.
I would need to do an assessment to understand what exactly is going on.
Hello there! I apologize for the delayed response, I was out of town. I am so sorry to hear about the discomfort you are experiencing! I would love to offer you a free consultation to come in and discuss your symptoms and health history so that I can help to figure out what is going on and how best to resolve it.
In truth, it should have subsided after a few hours or by the next day. The reaction you had is certainly not common. I’m sorry this was your experience!
Hi… from what you shared, this is a very unusual reaction to an acupuncture treatment. Did you follow-up with the doctor that treated you and share what your experience has been?
You should find another acupuncturist to check out. If it doesn’t hurt your nerves, it should be improved from day to day. Just pay attention on it, and warm up your hands before you need to use it to work for long time. It’s can prevent further damage.
The damage to the tissues from Acupuncture is very minor and a healthy body repairs it quickly. What the Acupuncturist said is true. In my 50 years of doing Acupuncture, it has always been the case. I think you had a pre-existing condition (mental or physical) that the acupuncture may have made you aware of but wasn't the cause. You may have an anxiety disorder. How is your sleep? Did you seek Acupuncture or was it part of a treatment (like work Comp.) It could also have been existing nerve damage, do you have any numbness in your hands?
what kind of work do you do? You may have an infection in your hands,. For instance, If you work preparing fish for food or freezing, that could be a source of infection. Or you could have a systemic fungal overgrowth that has reached the hands. check your tongue and feet for fungal growth.

First, what licensed professional? Was this an LAc (licensed Acupuncturist), or a PT, MD, or DC? There are many licensed professionals today that are not fully trained. They give acupuncture a bad name. I never let a patient leave my office if they have any pain or tingling at any point on their body. The person clearly hit some nerves. Apparently on all four limbs. Either that or you have an injury from some other cause but I have to take your word that it happened at the time of acupuncture. Did you call the person and tell them about the tingling? They can best help you resolve the cause. For my patients, I put a topical analgesic on the site right away. It should go away immediately. Contact the practitioner and see what they recommend.
