Stomach issues?

A week ago I noticed a sharp mild pain under my rib cage only when drinking fluids. The pain doesn’t bother me any other time. Also, I have ongoing burning in my stomach up to my throat. I don’t drink alcohol at all or use anti-inflammatory meds very much. A Dr suggests I have gastritis and prescribed Pepcid. My stomach is still burning even after taking this medication.

"gastritis" is the default and lazy answer to any stomach symptom that happens after eating, but in reality gastritis is usually not the answer. If symptoms do not get better with pepcid or prilosec, then you know that acid is not the issue either. It would be important to get a bit more detail about the pain so venture a guess at a diagnosis. For example, if I saw you as a patient then I would ask about the onset of pain, the timing, other associated symptoms, etc. A physical exam might help too.
