Orthodontist Questions Zirconia Braces

What are zirconia braces?

I have decided to go ahead with the option of getting braces to correct the misalignment of my teeth. My dentist has recommended zirconia braces for the procedure. What are zirconia braces and how are they very different from the regular ones?

Hello, Zirconia is a type of ceramic. When used for braces, they are clear and very difficult to see on the tooth. There is minimal difference between clear braces and traditional metal other than the appearance. Both allow the doctor to apply appropriate forces to move the teeth. Metal or sometimes white coated wires are used with either type of braces. I hope this helps!
Zirconia braces are made from a very clear ceramic. They work like metal braces but are more fragile. They are a good esthetic alternative but need to be well cared for.
Zirconia is a type of mineral used to manufacture polycrystalline ceramic braces. Zirconia braces are fairly recent. Similar to other ceramic braces, they have good fracture toughness, which means, it will not break easily as compared to other ceramic braces.
However, they are also known to be a little more opaque, that means less esthetic (minor difference) than other ceramic brace
They are one type of clear braces. There are many types. It is the operator not the braces that is important.
See a specialist orthodontist. Zirconia is a porcelain type of bracket-clear/white.
Zirconia braces are one of several types of clear braces. They work the same as bonded metal braces but are less noticeable.
Hello, thank you for the great question. There are different kinds of braces available in the market: metal, ceramic, zirconia braces, etc. A few of them are aesthetically better looking than others, zirconia braces match with your tooth color so they look better and of course they cost more than metal brackets. There is no technical advantage between two kind of braces. Hope this helps.
Zirconia is a material used commonly in dental restorations (i.e crowns, inlays, onlays, veneers, etc.). In orthodontics, we use tooth colored braces which are not zirconia, but a copolymer. Clear braces have some mechanical differences compared to metal, but your orthodontist knows how to work with this material. One of the main differences between clear and metal is esthetics. Clear brackets are a great esthetic alternative to metal braces. Hope this helps...Dr.B.
Great question. Zirconia Braces are another version of ceramic braces or clear braces vs. traditional metal braces.
Zirconia braces are a type of braces that are meant to be less noticeable than metal braces. They are a type of ceramic braces that offer a more cosmetic approach to treatment without significant functional compromises. They are durable, cosmetic, and the risk of discoloration is minimal. Zirconia is a mineral extracted from beach sands of Australia. The partially stabilized Zirconium developed from this sand is known to be a highly stress-resistant material. Similar to other ceramic braces, Zirconia brackets have good fracture toughness, which means, they will not break easily. Polycrystalline Zirconia brackets are known to be a little more opaque than other ceramic brackets though and can exhibit some intrinsic colors.
Hello! Zirconia braces are white braces - they are more cosmetic but they are more expensive and usually a little bit harder to remove OFF the teeth when it is time to debond. Hope this helps! Thank you!
