The most recommended pain medication for dental pain is Motrin. Your dentist should be willing to give you a prescription to get you through the pain. The pain also should be subsiding on its own 24-48 hours after the procedure.
The pain should not last long. Ibuprofen should be enough to calm the pain. If it still hurts after a week, call your dentist again.
If you can take medication like ibuprofen (Advil), a combination of
ibuprofen plus acetaminophen (Tylenol) provides the best pain relief.
You can take 3 tablets of ibuprofen totaling 600 mg every 8 hours. Alternatively, you ca take 2 Tylenol every 8 hours.
Look up Advil Dual action with Advil and Tylenol combined.
Typically for over-the-counter pain management, I recommend up to 1000mg of Tylenol combined with 600mg of ibuprofen every 6-8 hours.
You can take ibuprofen or Tylenol, and if that doesn't help, call your dentist and ask for a prescription strength pain killer.
