Hello,
Ear pain in children most commonly occurs from ear canal irritation. Ear canal irritation most commonly occurs from pollen or dust or dirt particles that land in the ear canal, and then the ear canal secretes cerumen wax in reaction to this. The cerumen wax coats the wall of the ear canal and this traps the particles there. Then the canal wall may become itchy and inflamed. This is painful. Infection may set it as well. This creates more pain. Water in the ear can bring bacteria in also.
