Usually increase in the fact that fluid in the eye dosen't properly leave the eye normal. If severe can lead to glaucoma and eye drops may be needed to help the normal flow
Dear patient: High eye pressure, or ocular hypertension, has many different causes. Generally, fluid outflow is decreased, or inflow increased and the regulatory balance is disrupted. It may be a pre-glaucoma, there may be an anatomical problem causing pigmentary dispersion from the iris which blocks outflow, it may be related to near-sightedness, or if your eyes are sensitive to steroid medication. You need continued followup and appropriate testing to make sure the high pressure does not damage the optic nerve, leading to glaucoma visual field loss. Regards, Philip Roholt, MD
Too much fluid production or not enough drainage can cause an increase of eye pressure. Sometimes, certain medications can cause an increase of intraocular pressure as well.
